Client crashes if network connection is lost (MD-9613)

Observed behavior

Sometimes the client crashes if the network connection is lost.

Expected behavior

Fall back to the login screen, try to log in again and no crash :wink:

Affected Environments

All Desktop Plattforms (Windows, macOS, Linux)

Segfault on Linux reported by @sam here.
